Amazing! We had our wedding weekend at the lodge Dec. 03, 2011. The staff is the best...and are true professionals. My family and friends were so impressed by every single detail. The stress I had to deal with (despite a few issues I never knew about until afterwards) was SO minimal! Kathryn is a DOLL and Brett is a real GENTLEMEN! He even helped my dad (FOB) tie his tie on the big day! I wouldn't change a thing and would recommend this venue to everyone!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place, and the owners; Patrick and Monica! My sister had a HUGE ass wedding - I guess that's what happens when you are Italian/Portugese. I'm telling you...weddings and funerals bring 'em out of the wood work! The Forest House beautifully catered to our VERY large family from the rehearsal dinner, to the ceremony, to the reception, to the PAR-TAY, to the morning after breakfast - EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT!! Some things I love about this place... 1. The history behind the lodge. Built in the 1800's the owners have kept this place GORGEOUS. It's antique qualities are oh so charming with an updated and modern twist, again, GORGEOUS! 2. The Bridal "Suite" is a HUGE room down stairs with a bar turned cosmetics table and all the space you need for you and your girls to get ready. We rolled in the champagne and HAD A BLAST preparing for my sister's wedding! 3. Their outdoor ceremony site overlooks the American River Canyon. 'Nuf said!! You couldn't ask for a more breath taking view. 4. They have NO TIME LIMITS. When you book the place IT IS YOURS ALL WEEKEND. 5. The bar is ROCKIN' and PRIVATE. Music, booze, midnight snacks...SO MUCH FUN!! 6. Monica actually made my sister's wedding cake! BREATH TAKINGLY GORGEOUS - and yummy!!! The cake was amazing and perfect - I couldn't believe that this cake was made by a single woman, surely you'd need an army of bakers to accomplish this task. 7. The Forest House provides EVERYTHING you need to have your wedding. Linens, place settings, cake, champagne and cake cutting service, DJ options...there was absolutely no running here to get catering and there to order linens...the Forest House does it all and it was a weight off the shoulders of my sister and her wedding party. This place is awesome, and I cannot stress enough how much FUN your wedding will be! But I worn you...if you had as much fun as I did...you will be hugging one of the toilets in the hotel suites upstairs until the wee hours of the morning...

10/12/2009 The Forest House Lodge was beautiful, inviting and luscious. It has a warm relaxing feeling when you walk in. On your first visit you are guided through the Lodge by Brett, one of the warmest people I have ever met. The staff is extremely organized and helpful throughout the entire process. Kathryn is a ravishing breath of fresh air the guides you through the fantastic journey of developing the wedding of your dreams. Before your event you are invited to one or more Tasting Events, where you get to meet other brides and grooms; get all your questions answered; meet the staff and enjoy an evening of beer, wine, food, fun and even wedding cake. The entire experience is astounding. The Ceremony site has the most breath taking view. You don't need anything to decorate or detract from the view. All my friends and family couldn't believe how the pictures came out. People thought that we had a fake background inserted into our pictures. They feed you 7 times during the day: Breakfast, Lunch, Pre-Ceremony Appetizers, Post-Ceremony Appetizers, Dinner, Desert and Late Night Appetizers. I love food and I can say that I did get enough food for the day. All my guests raved about how wonderfully mouthwatering the food was. We had the food served family style, which allowed everyone to talk at the table. The Late night appetizers were so good and so needed. The Game Room and games were such a hit the night before and the night of our wedding. People played Rock Band all night long. They have a pool table, air hockey, ping pong, a wii, Rock Band, and Sing Song. They have plenty of rooms for all of your guests to crash after they are finished partying. Each room was unique and homey. Most Places only let you celebrate for 5 hours, but you have the Forest House Lodge for at least 24 hours. It is the best deal within the Sacramento Area by far. It was worth every single penny. They always thought ahead with us and our guests in mind. Every last detail is perfect.

10/25/2009 My Husband I have just returned from our wedding. Everything went fabulously and I didn't have to run it all. I'm sure there must have been some things that went wrong, because I'm a terrible planner, but I never saw them or knew about them because that's how good these folks are. The staff here doesn't just do their job, they do it with more love and passion than seems possible. They understand, believe in and appreciate the importance and emotion of this special event and are committed to supporting it's success. I felt like I had very experienced and skilled family gently guiding our event to success which was so important to us. I was loath to have any strangers at our wedding. Our family and friends expressed to us many times how impressed they were with the wedding. We owe a huge amount of that to the fantastic staff and amenities at the Lodge. I won't be redundant about all the details of the lodge but they pretty much thought of everything including a special basket of bath amenities for having a sink bath for my husband's god daughter who is in a wheelchair and couldn't stay on the main floor of rooms with everyone else. They were even able to graciously and gracefully accommodate my 3 guest with Celiac disease. We were so lucky to have stumbled on the Forest House and their amazing staff. For those thinking it's out of your price range....call them anyway...they have every imaginable package for different budgets and you will by far get infinitely more value for each dollar than any place where you have to book every vendor for yourself or do it all yourself. They will let you do a lot for yourself if you're one of those crafty people, like myself, but they also take VERY good care of you. Brett and Kathryn are a dynamic duo. They deserve some kind of award. I cannot find words to say how grateful we were for their grace and skill. Give them a chance and let them woo you. Just like your fiance, they won't disappoint you. Yelp 3/26/2011 Our wedding turned out perfectly and we really have Brett, Catherine, and all of the staff at the Forest House to thank for it. The Forest House was unlike any other wedding venue that we looked at (and we looked at a lot of them.) It used to be a Lodge, but now they are solely a wedding site. The best thing about it is that it is a 3 story building and the top floor is filled with rooms that your guest can stay in. We had 105 people at our wedding and about 75 of them were able to stay the night there, so there was no rushed feeling at out wedding. We really had time to relax and enjoy being around all of our friends and family on our special day. San Jose, CA
Yelp 8/31/2011 I was in the wedding party in a wedding held here a few weeks ago. It was incredible! The staff is so wonderful. The bridal salon and game rooms on the bottom floor are amazing and have everything you could possibly think of to keep the guys busy while the girls get ready. The bridal salon is roomy and offers many vanity stations. We arrived in the morning and spent our time getting ready in the bridal salon and sipping champagne. The wedding was at 5 at a breathtaking view. We came back to the venue and the reception began. We went on until 2am. Most places make you shut it down at midnight. At every turn there was food. Just when you start thinking you'd like a snack, woosh...they arrive with a tray of yummies! I love that everything is there on site. I love love love the bar area with all the hats to try on. It makes for some priceless pictures. Being able to crawl up the stairs and sleep off wedding celebrations was so great. The rooms are small but I just slept for a few hours and came down for a FULL breakfast. It is like having a rich old aunt with a well-appointed country home. There were NO snags. I have never been involved in such a problem free celebration. The venue itself is beautiful and perfect for a rustic celebration. It was so romantic and intimate. Best wedding I have ever been to. It was getting late and I was quite a few drinks in. I'm standing at the bar and poof....jalepeno poppers and french fries!!! Loved that touch. I want someone else to get married there so I can go back! The only caveat is that you would not want to try to do a glam wedding here probably. I would take advantage of the rustic details instead.

06/03/2009 The most amazing wedding/reception location I could possibly imagine. The staff did EVERYTHING we asked of them. (Even our request for a vanilla shake as our signature drink!) Best value and amount of services for the price...similar sites do not compare. Main points: Great staff, ceremony site, exclusive use of the lodge, great food, great on-site bakery for cake, amazing bar and bartenders, game area is fantastic. I want to to it all over again!

Yelp 8/25/2010 We booked the Forest House January 2010 for our January 2011 wedding and we have absolutely fallen in love with it! We have not even had our wedding yet and have had nothing but great experiences with them. Their bride groom cocktail parties have been not only great fun, but an exceptional learning opportunity. We get to meet other brides and grooms and exchange ideas, vendors and stories. Not to mention it is a great way to experience the Forest House for everything it is. From the game room to the beautiful bar there is something for everyone. Above all the unique (and profound) concept that is the Forest House Lodge is allowing us to be unique in our own ways for OUR wedding. I emphasize our because it is truly ours down to every detail that WE want. Not a template wedding, a unique interpretation that fits who we are. We still have 4 months until the big day and if everything is as perfect as it has been so far it will be beyond fabulous, it will be perfect! San Francisco, CA
06/30/2010 Yelp My sister got married at the lodge a few weekends ago and it was amazing. Her wedding was on a Friday night, so the wedding party (and a significant number of other guests) arrived on Thursday evening. After the rehearsal (at the insanely beautiful wedding site), family and friends spent most of the night in the game room and upstairs bar. It was so much fun! The variety of hats from the bar are super fun (and can occasionally even be cute). The game room was spectacular and fun for people of all ages. The staff was incredible. There were always fresh bottles of water around, things were kept clean and tidy and it appeared as though invisible hotel fairies were taking care of it. The wedding day itself was amazing. This was my first experience as a "maid of honor" and I cannot stress how smoothly everything went. There was a breakfast and a lunch that day that were both great. In the afternoon, I was primarily in the bridal suite. It was fantastic, make-up chairs, lots of mirrors, chairs for doing hair, two bathrooms and an excellently sophisticated vibe. The bridal party was completely taken care of. We were served appetizers, there was water and champagne. It was fantastic! The groom's party seemed to have had there own things going on, although I am not totally sure what. The rest of the guests (and the groom's party) were first at the site, to mingle and have appetizers. This is all hearsay on my part, but I have yet to hear a negative comment. The site, is absolutely breathtaking! It needs no decoration other than that provided by Mother Nature. The wedding itself was gorgeous! The reception was tons of fun, the food was great and so was the dancing. I imagine that every couple has a different idea, but my sister and now brother-in-law's decoration ideas were perfect. The feel of the lodge is great. I can see how some people may not enjoy the 'rustic' atmosphere of the Lodge, but personally I think the lack of hotel norms (ie, blow dryers and private bathrooms...etc.) made it all the more fantastic. I felt that it was set up "family style" and that is what weddings are after all, familial expansion. As far as pre-wedding planning goes, I had no contact with the lodge, but I never heard my sister complain. Perhaps she was just the image of a laid-back bride, but I know she got the things she wanted from the Lodge and its staff and valued their opinions. I am pretty sure it is under new management (and maybe even new ownership) since the bad reviews made a few years ago. Kathryn and Brett seemed to have done everything they could to create the perfect wedding for my sister. I cannot think of a better place to have experienced the union, not only of my sister and her husband (I can't believe I'm using that word!), but also that of our two families. Rocklin, CA
Yelp 4/12/2011 This is a wonderful place for a wedding or business event and the staff members are amazing. They are warm & welcoming, and they are very organized; they will keep your event running smoothly. The wedding site is just down the road and the views are incredible! I am a photographer and have shot many weddings here. The Forest House & their wedding site have always been in beautiful condition and the staff have made my job much easier than at other locations. :) I highly recommend the Forest House...I wish I had another wedding to plan for myself so I could have it here! Yelp 1/18/2011 Our wedding turned out perfectly and we really have Brett, Catherine, and all of the staff at the Forest House to thank for it. 8/31/2011 Yelp So, I have put off writing this since i knew I wanted to be very thorough and detailed, and knew it would take me awhile...so here we go – I got in engaged in Dec.2010, we rushed to pick a venue since we wanted to get married the upcoming summer. It didn't work out with that venue, so in Feb/March we were rushing around to find a venue - we knew we wanted outdoorsy/rustic, a venue that let us plan our wedding the way we wanted it, and had a long venue rental time (after all you only get one wedding day, right?) So, we found FHL actually on Yelp - I went there, met with Brett, thought he was awesome and the venue looked a million times better than online, pics don't do it justice. Well, I thought the price was a bit high, but then found out it's all inclusive - no suprises! We booked the only day they had left for this summer......on to the planning process, we worked with Brett and Kathryn, anytime, I mean ANYTHING we asked for, they said yes to, and accommodated all of requests. this IS the place to get married if you want things done YOUR way, YOUR DREAM wedding is here.... So, our wedding day comes and goes off PERFECT, everything I had obsessed over, envisioned and worked so hard to create came to life! No suprises, no mistakes - most of my guests have called me to tell me it was the most fun wedding they have ever been to. It brings tears to my eyes when I think of how amazing, kind and hard working all of FHL staff was to us, especially Brett, Kathryn, Laura, Julie and Steven, they will always have such a special place in our hearts - If you are a bride considering gettng married here, please email me, I can give you recommendations, vendors we used and any pics of the venue (I even took a video) We actually did our flowers thru Sam's club (set them all up at the venue too) they aren't even strict on who you use for vendors (like some other venues) Be sure to compare their prices to other venues (watch out for sneaky venues to that get you on per head drink tabs and 20% service charges on venue fees, it adds up to well over forest house lodges prices) Have fun planning and enjoy FHL, you can't go wrong with them!

07/07/2008 4.5 this place was pretty awesome. in the middle of no where...it was weird that this city existed in california. the wedding site itself is UNBELIEVABLE. like just perfect- it's a forest with a good amount of space and shade, that looks over a cliff at some beautiful mountains. the lodge itself was nice- some rooms were nicer than others but the smallest of them was fine (shared bathroom/shower for some of the rooms, but sinks in every room). it was all clean and well kept up- each with air conditioning and heating. it used to be a brothel. no internet and no cell phone reception unless you have verizon which gets like 1-2 bars. the banquet/ball room was great. we had some british dj who was AWESOME...no idea of his name though....he was probably hired from out of town. the wedding food was very very good. the chef there was really nice and very good. they also had a downstairs chilling area where they have rock band (yeaaa), pool, a card table, couches, ping pong, etc. a very nice place to drink/relax. the bar upstairs isnt always open, but when it is, it's awesome. we called it a hat bar since they have like 30 diff hats old and new on the walls to try on as you booze more and more- the drinks weren't too expensive and the bartenders were EXTREMELY cool/chill/happy. as for the town- it was hilariously cool. it was literally like i was watching a documentary about some little town in the south or midwest- it was pretty bizarre. there's a local bar across the street that was pretty awesome (they have a wii). of course, clearly being from out of town we were called out, but we just talked amongst ourselves....then out of nowhere we have peanuts hurled at us. so knowing we were outnumbered in the middle of nowhere, we didn't do anything besides boo. a minute later someone had bought all 8 of us a shot. pretty sweet. all in all, good times.

5/26/2010 Four and a half stars and rounding up. I was here for my cousin's wedding and found the lodge utterly captivating. The entire lodge was booked for the weekend so we were free to roam around. It's located in a remote area just beyond Sacramento amongst the woods and you feel sheltered from the bustle of the city. In fact, we lost cell phone reception several miles away. Initially I felt naked without my cell but then it was fantastically liberating. The lodge is three stories. The ground level has several rooms. The foyer leads into a small sitting area with the reception desk. To either side are inviting small rooms with comfy sofas, arm chairs and complete with roaring fireplaces. If you proceed straight past the reception desk there is a larger sitting area with half a dozen sofas. And there are two rooms attached to this larger room. One is a smaller banquet room where we had lunch before the wedding. The other is a large banquet hall where the reception was held. There were 185 guests. It was a tight fit, but not uncomfortably so. There's a large patio out back as well, and it overlooks the beautiful grounds. The top floor is where all the rooms are. This is an older facility and not all the rooms have a bathroom, but I think all come with a sink. There are communal bathrooms. The rooms are adorably decorated with different themes: flowers, fruit, trees etc. Some rooms have bathrooms and there are a few two bedroom suites. The basement is extremely spacious and divided into four different rooms: two game rooms, a bar room, and another seating area with lots of plush couches. One game room has a complete rock band set, the other has a pool table and an air hockey table. This was a popular place to hang out between and after wedding festivities. The food was great. There was a little bit of something for everyone. Stuffed chicken, pepper crusted salmon, steak, roasted vegetables, butternut squash pasta, crisp salad, and even a little kids selection complete with mac and cheese and fries. A very solid four stars for food. I took off half a star from the review because the some of the rooms don't have private bathrooms, and that's rather inconvenient. Also, please note that they do NOT have hair dryers. Overall though, this was a lovely lodge in the gorgeous woods of Forest Hill. The beauty of the lodge and the friendly staff more than atone for the shortcomings. *Editor's Note: We have since added hair dryers to our amenity list!

8/24/2010 One of my nearest & dearest friends got married here this past weekend. She isn't a yelper (YET), but she had such an amazing experience (as did I, as a guest and honorary bridesmaid) that she asked me to write a review for the establishment!! The ceremony site is about a mile and a half down Foresthill road and is absolutely breathtaking-- it overlooks American River Canyon and could not be more gorgeous. Even on a very warm summer day, I don't think that it would be uncomfortable because of the trees that shade the site. I would imagine that Forest House provides indoor ceremonies too if the weather is poor, and it's such a beautiful venue that it would not be a problem. The bar is stocked with about 15-20 different types of beer, ranging from Sierra Nevada to Eye of the Hawk!! So many different options. The bar staff is extremely friendly. Also, the food was AMAZING!!! I sampled a little bit of everything and have zero complaints... even the pickiest eater can find something that fits them. I recommend this place to ANY bride-to-be. Although it is a little pricey, this venue and its wonderful staff will not let you down!! NOTE: The ONLY complaint I have is that I could not get cell reception with AT&T and there was no wifi on the premises... however, this can also be considered a perk because you are disconnected from technology and everyday life while you are enjoying the beauty of this place!

Yelp 3/17/2011 Hello future brides! If I could title my wedding, and bottle up my experience with the Forest House Lodge ... I would call it "A Dream Come True". I am that girl that has been dreaming of my wedding since I was a little. In fact every Halloween, I asked to be a bride. To me, I wanted my wedding to be perfect... to be a fairytale. I knew the flowers I wanted, the kind of music I wanted to dance to, the type of dress I would wear... the only thing I didn't know was WHERE the wedding would be. My husband (Yay, I get to call him that now!) and I met camping, on top of a mountain. I knew we wanted an outdoor ceremony, great food, and a cozy reception. We started out our search for the perfect wedding venue by booking 5 places to preview. My dear friends, the Forest House Lodge was our very first stop... and after our tour with Brett (beyond amazing, caring, and enthusiastic General Manager) ... we CANCELLED every other place... we knew we found our wedding home! We call it that, because that is what your experience at The Forest House will feel like, a second home. They take you in, and make you feel like family. Brides, I am a perfectionist. BUT, this venue, these people... THEY ARE ... perfection. Brett & Kathryn are a married couple who run the operations there. Kathryn (who will become part of your heart) is the wedding director. The Forest House Lodge is truly an all-inclusive wedding venue. It is a 3 story miner's lodge that has been converted to a fine dining, high end wedding experience. You get a ceremony site, a reception room, incredible food, a gorgeous cake (the cake designer is actually the owner, Monica and she is fabulously talented!), a place to stay, and all the organization, help, and tips you could ever ask for! They really think of every detail; from the private appetizers set aside for the bride and groom (so you don't miss out on one thing!)to the intimate meetings with Kathryn to make sure every single detail of your big day is exactly what you planned on, to the private tastings you get to experience... this place is magical. For us, we had so many people coming from different places, it was important for each person to feel comfortable. The FHL, are experts on knowing the unknown, and there was not one glitch on the big day! Even people with food allergies had special pre-planned meals. And the lodge... oh my goodness... The top floor is rooms to fit up to 68 people(rest of guests stay at nearby hotels, which Kathryn gives you the list for) and each room has a different theme (fun!), the second floor is the main reception room, bar & lounge, and the third floor.... I almost don't want to tell you ... but SOOO worth going to see... it is a game room with every single game you can think of... for all ages! Now a really important aspect : eating!! For our wedding, we had about 200 people who flew in from areas of all over. Growing up in Napa, my family and I are major foodies. Let me tell you, you will NOT be disappointed! The food is just amazing. They have a wonderful chef with literally hundreds of option to suit your tastes. And, when you look for a ceremony site... talk about one being sent from GOD! It is a stone walkway that leads you to an open canyon on top of a mountain ... THAT is where you get married! It is stunning. A friend of mine referred to it as "Gods Altar".(They do have other options indoors too). I really can't say enough about how amazing this place is. I got the wedding of my dreams, got to marry my best friend, and I had a team of people behind me who truly CARED with all their hearts that my day was perfect. Kathryn and Brett, take you on a journey... and give you the wedding of your dreams. Go meet them, and give them a hug from Rachel and Brandon!!

10/26/2009 I was the best man at my brother's wedding last weekend and I was amazed. This place is the place to get married. The owners were fantastic, the food was great, the location beautiful, everything was professional and well done. It's an older hotel so some of the rooms are ... not perfect, but it's still 5 stars worth of awesome.
Palo Alto, CA
5/25/2009 I guess I really don't need to say much considering everyone else has already given it five stars and raved about it to be the best place to get married. Just got back from my boyfriend's sister's wedding. It was rocking. The ceremony site was beeyootiful, although I came back with six mosquito bites. But the view is breathtaking and you feel like you're in the middle of the woods. The staff is very friendly, I absolutely love the game room, and the rooms upstairs are super cute. I also love the hats they leave around the bar for people to wear! Those definitely made some funny pictures! If you're a kinda foresty person who loves the woods and nature, this little wood lodge is definitely the place for you. The best part was having the reception at the same venue as you slept. You could get as drunk as you want, stay up as late as you want because the whole place is yours for the entire night, and when you're tired all you have to do is go upstairs to your room. A really cute place.

08/03/2010 Our son and daughter-in-law were just married at Forest House and the entire experience was exceptional. The outdoor wedding venue was breathtakingly beautiful and the lodge facilities were intimate, warm and inviting. The food was superb throughout our time there. All that being said, the quality of the service at Forest House was perhaps their strongest suit of all. As an example, one of the wedding party had multiple car problems on their trip up to Foresthill and wound up arriving about an hour after the staff had finished serving the rehearsal buffet. When this was brought to the attention of the manager, they promptly reopened the kitchen and provided the frazzled family with four delicious hot meals. There were numerous other instances where the staff clearly went out of their way to provide us with a most memorable experience. It was as if we were being attended to by family and, indeed, most of the guests were soon on a first name basis with the various staff members. Throughout the event, Kathryn hovered over each evolution and, without being the least bit intrusive, ensured the success of each in a most gracious manner. In short, if you're searching for a great place to get married and to do it for a reasonable amount of money, stop looking. Forest House is as good as it gets!

Yelp 9/30/2008 I got married here in August of 2008. If I do say so myself, the wedding was beautiful. You would be hard-pressed to find anywhere in California as unique as the Forest House Lodge. The ceremony site is breathtaking, and the lodge is one of the most fun places that I have ever been. You truly feel as though you are a thousand miles away, private and secluded... a bluff surrounded by trees overlooking the Sierra Nevada mountains. The bridal salon at the lodge is every girl's fantasy: a make-up bar, two salon chairs, sweeping velvet draperies, chaise lounges, and plenty of floor length mirrors. As soon as I saw the bridal salon, I was sold on having my wedding here! I hadn't even seen the ceremony site.
